2023 HITS and POLO update: Well, to say 2023 has been difficult for polo is an understatement. The polo season and HITS seasons run concurrently with season starting January and running through the end of March. The Eldorado Polo Club was buzzing along with a full roster of teams in all the Leagues, and stabling was full. Then the polo season came to an end abruptly with 2 weeks remaining!
Unfortunately, an infectious virus, known as EHV was found in a horse at the polo club. The original mare had to be put down, and the nearby horses were moved into isolation. Local Vet, Mike Manno, worked with the club and also the State of California in quarantining the remaining horses. No horses are allowed on or off the polo fields until quarantine is over, 3/30. A sad ending to the season, but we players are very serious about taking care of our ponies, and all of us have been respectful of the quarantine. No other deaths have been reported.
The Desert Horse Park just wrapped it’s 2023 season! Tons of horses, classes and spectators made for another successful season. One of our local farms, Forsythe Farms, with owner/trainer Laura Forsythe, had a very successful 2023 show season. Congrats! So fantastic that both Polo and Jumping, both enormous equestrian draws for the Coachella Valley, are both such successful endeavors in our valley. If you are looking for Land, maybe a seasonal home to stay in during the local events, or an equestrian property, give Kim Kelly, local Realtor and equestrian a call at 760-285-3578.
