Thermal airport is expanding! The name of the airport, which was established in 1942, was changed to Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in 2004. The Eastern Coachella Valley is opening up even more. Yes, Thermal’s Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport (TRM) is expanding and is in the process of adding an air traffic control tower. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is providing staffing for the tower if it’s built by 2027, but the deadline may be extended to 2029, so yes, the Thermal airport is expanding!
TRM is a public-use airport in Riverside County, California, located in the Coachella Valley, 23 miles southeast of Palm Springs. It has two runways: a primary north/south runway that’s 8,500 feet long and a northwest/southeast runway that’s 5,000 feet long.
