City of La Quinta fiscal updates: The city of La Quinta just held it’s 13th community workshop, and surprise to nobody, the city is financially sound and well positioned to handle economic downturns, natural disasters or other unforeseen events. The city of La Quinta is ranked #7 out of 410 cities ranked by California Policy Center’s Fiscal Health Dashboard, putting it in the top 2% nationwide, and the ONLY city in the Coachella Valley ranked in the top 10! I live here in La Quinta, and have for many years. I show and sell in all the desert cities and appreciate it’s uniqueness, but La Quinta is just so pretty, and open.
- IID: New substations are moving forward. Cost share agreements are coming for the City and developers for the Ave. 58 substation, scheduled for completion in 2028.
- Affordable housing: The city has 3 parcels near 111 slated for up to 587 affordable housing units. Cost is approx. $700,000/door, so not a small expense
- Fritz Burns Park improvements are mostly complete or near to complete. What a beautiful park with lap pool, tennis and pickleball courts, and walkable to Old Town La Quinta.
- Road improvement projects: Next summer will see the more improvements, and Hwy 111 was done last summer. Resurfacing in the La Quinta cove is ongoing.

What sets the City of La Quinta apart? All the Coachella Valley cities have something special and unique about them. I live in La Quinta, and chose it specifically for it’s proximity to the more rural East Valley, because of my horses and it’s proximity to both the polo fields and the showgrounds. As we’ve grown, so has traffic and population, but because the East Valley is wide open, it still feels open and welcoming.
La Quinta has become a celebrity haven. The Reserve and Big Horn have competition with La Quinta’s Madison Club. Madison Club prices have been zooming up. This exclusive, private, security intense, golf community is a favorite amongst the elite, including the Hollywood set. Prices range from approx. 3 mil for Villas, when they come up. to custom homes upward of 30 million.
Interestingly enough, there are still plenty of very affordable living choices, such as the La Quinta Cove, Highland Palms, Desert Club Estates, and condos and smaller homes at many of the golf course communities. La Quinta is fiscally very sound. The City of La Quinta is celebrating a major financial milestone. More than 400 cities statewide were evaluated by the California Policy Center’s Local Fiscal Health Dashboard and got a #7 ranking!! Wow! Lots going on the city of La Quinta. La Quinta offers some unique things that I really love about living here. You’ve got great hiking and biking all over, especially around the cove. Fritz Burns Park has tennis, pickleball, a great lap pool, and easy access to old town La Quinta. 44 years young, La Quinta will have a birthday celebration this year. There are some new eateries, Chick-fil-a, The Golf Bar, Kitchen Ten Eleven, and there’s also the Sports Warehouse for tennis enthusiasts.
The City of La Quinta is also offering a refreshed identity for both residents and the city. The City is investing in key improvements in several areas, including the Fritz Burns Park Improvement Project. There will be increased shade and new amenities including..
• Plaza and promenade with public art, seating and shade
• Expanded playground with new equipment, lighting and drinking fountains
• New restroom building
• Modified parking lot with added shade

I’ve lived in La Quinta for over 25 years, and every time I drive by it, or stop to hit golf balls, or play a round with friends, I keep hoping that this time it’s for real. The long delayed project to bring another luxury resort to La Quinta has been stuck in bankruptcy court since August 2024. The previous owner, SilverRock Development Company filed for bankruptcy. That project had been going on since 2014. I stopped in years ago to check it out for clients and met with the developer, Mr. Green. When he told me the proposed price points and HOA’s, I had a bad feeling. Hideaway, the Tradition, Mountain View and PGA are all well established golf resorts and SilverRock has to be competitive with their pricing to get people in. Anyway, here’s to hoping it gets rolling!!
