Is Indio, California the next “hub” of the Coachella Valley? It certainly feels like it may be! When I first came to Indio, in the mid 1980’s, the jingle for the city went something like “It’s the hub-bub of the valley…it’s Indio, Indio, In-D-O” That about knocked us down because the only people that even knew where Indio was, were the Polo Players, or locals. The City of Festivals, Indio, offers some of the best remaining Land Values in the Coachella Valley. Because Land is still relatively cheap, Equestrian Estates, and Residential options are also less pricey than in the central and Western Valley cities.
Pretty much EVERYBODY knows where the City of Indio is now, and in large part due to the fame of the Coachella Music Festivals. Empire Polo Club was home to the first music festival, and since then, it feels like the festivals, and the local economies they feed, have changed the face of this sleepy little Eastern coachella Valley city. Indio is still home to two of the largest Polo clubs in the United States, Eldorado Polo club, and the Empire Polo Club. That much has remained the same, other than one big change..Eldorado Polo fields were sold in 2013 to the Goldenvoice group.
The City of Indio has slowly been cleaning itself up. The old part of the City has a bunch of Locally owned and operated yummy restaurants, and main street has some great stores, but nothing “new.” What could be brewing??? Just last week, it was confirmed that the Indio Fashion Mall located on the corner of Monroe and Hwy 111 was jus SOLD. Good news since it’s been mostly vacant for years. Who bought it?? Hmmm..looks like Haagen Co., bought the mall.
Remember that Mr. Haagen brought the idea and the conception of the Coachella Music Festivals to the City of Indio as well..that means he must see a future in that old mall! It is on a major industrial corner..Monroe and Hwy 111, so the signs point to future development in the “hub-bub of the Valley”..maybe it really IS Indio! Take the video tour of a gorgeous Indio property offered for just $1,649,000.
