The heat is on; how to survive the desert summer. Still registering 107 degrees at 7 pm..pretty normal for summer in the desert. My friends who are not desert “rats”, always ask me “How do you get through those HOT days??” My days really do change in the intense heat. My real estate clients that buy their winter retreat here in the desert, often end up staying longer than planned. But they normally are out of here by the time the heat rolls in..if you’re thinking about buying a desert retreat, luxury lease property, or equestrian, give me a call at 760-285-3578. I may be melting, but I’m here!
First off, the hours change dramatically with the Desert heat. Being a horse person, I am used to getting up early, and summer means even earlier to beat the heat. No waiting around until after 9, plan on early morning. Good news..gorgeous out!! Polo games start at 8 Wednesday through Sundays at the Empire Polo Club, so after your morning hike, stop by to watch the practices, then hit the Tackroom Tavern for an iced tea or a beer and lunch.
It’s an eery feeling to walk any of our shopping districts in the mid day heat..quiet and deserted..until you open a door into the air conditioned retreats within. El Paseo stores and restaurants, Old Town La Quinta and many of the stores in Palm Springs change their hours, and many take all or part of August off..CLOSED!
The desert heat can wear you down..prepare for it. Get up early, get all your outdoor chores done, then retreat into the cool again. Office work, gym work outs, movies, museums..check out the boutique stores you’ve always wanted to see. Golf games ensue at 6 a.m., there are tons of golf deals to be had in the summer heat. Yes, you can hike, but ONLY early in the morning, or after sundown-stay out of the heat!! To see our beautiful Eastern Valley farm area, take the aerial below..
