La Quinta Cove; A favorite of Locals and Visitors. The “Cove”, as Locals refer to it, has been a favorite of mine since my Polo playing days. When I, and maybe one or two other players needed a seasonal place to stay, we almost always chose the La Quinta Cove. We could find a nice home, in a beautiful area, that was reasonably priced, and just far enough away from the Polo fields to give us a bit of autonomy. It still remains a favorite today. The Cove is an eclectic collection of single family homes, approx. 1200 of them, that hug the base of the mountains in one of the prettiest Coves in the desert.
No HOA’s here, and it’s very obvious! Homes can be any architectural style, and a wide range of Colors. The Cove is also home to approx. 28 “Casitas” that were built in the 1930’s – 40’s, and originally sold as retreats for many of Hollywood’s celebrities of the time. Classic adobe, with red tile roofs, white stucco walls, and original wood doors, the original Casitas were built in the style of the La Quinta Hotel, and are still much in demand.
Location is stellar for residents of The La Quinta Cove. There is a 7.2 mile Bike Path encircling the entire Cove, that will end up in Old Town La Quinta, or at the La Quinta Hotel & Spa. Triathletes training, people walking their dogs, others teaching their kids to ride bikes, heading out to hike one of the many trail heads at the top of The Cove, or cruising in a street legal golf cart..all common occurrences in this community.
The Cove is home to many local families, and one of it’s many draws are the public parks scattered amongst the cove streets. There is also a large public park with basketball courts, Baseball diamond and jungle gym, (on soft mat footing!). Just down the street from that park, is another park, Fritz Burns, that offers a public Swimming Pool, Tennis courts, and skateboard park. There is another element at work in the La Quinta Cove..creativity. Local Artists tend to be drawn to The Cove when they are searching for a La Quinta home to buy. Why? The natural setting and amazing light of course, but also the community support. It is not unusual to spot an Artist at work, painting the spectrum of light bathing the surrounding mountains.
The Cove is also very near to the La Quinta Library, which offers a local Artists’ exhibition every year. The La Quinta Library has just finished a renovation, the Senior Center is buzzing, and there is a new addition for La Quinta Residents..a workout facility offering classes, and weight room for $50/year! What’s not to love??
Housing options are many and varied. Fixer uppers can still be had for approx. $200,000, and new builds or remodels on superb view lots can range to approx. $900,000. Year round locals, seasonal snow birds, and people looking for that second “investment” home, are drawn to the La Quinta Cove…it’s still considered one of the best investments in La Quinta.
