Summer in the Desert. The Coachella Valley desert’s summer can be brutal with extreme heat ranging during the day from 110-115. Everyone that works outdoors changes their schedule to accommodate early and late working hours with quiet time (naps?) in the heat of the mid days. Local Equestrians ride early in the morning, and local Realtors, show properties pretty much all day..no matter what!!
I always look forward to our desert summers. This summer, May and June were particularly mild, and July is just starting to heat up. There is still a lovely cooling at night when temperatures dip into the 70’s from the heat during the day. Mornings are gorgeous..balmy and temperate. The heat kicks in about 9 or so, and my best advice is to drink lots of water, wear a hat everywhere, and long sleeved shirts to protect from the heat. Think of those Sheiks out in the desert with their flowing shirts and robes to ward off the heat and insects.
Summer polo starts at 8 in the morning, Wednesday through Sunday at Empire Polo Club.
Happy Hours are stellar, Old town La Quinta offers Solano’s, The Brewery, Enzo’s and Wine Bar. The LQ Hotel has the Adobe Grill and several others, and Point Happy has the always popular Cliffhouse. Every desert City has it’s reduced local happy hours and they last all night long! Parking is much lighter, waiters are plentiful, and it’s a great time to try some new spots. Spend the morning looking at Real Estate, then have an early dinner and drinks at one of the local watering holes. Take a tour of a very unusual, unique property in Thermal offered for just $450,000. Located on Calhoun St., near the Festival grounds is this 1700+ sf. 1930’s Adobe house with a basement Plus a Warehouse!
