5 of my favorite things about Indio, California! The City of Indio is one of our Eastern cities in the Coachella Valley. Having lived in Indio more than once in my 30+ years as a desert local, I know firsthand that there are some FUN things to do and see in this “City of Festivals.”
Indio used to be called “The Hub bub of the Valley.” That was the actual City Jingle!! That was in the 80’s. It is no longer considered the Hub Bub, but that’s more because our other Central Valley cities have grown too. Especially La Quinta, our newest City, which has experienced phenomenal growth. Back to Indio..here are 5 of my most Favorite things about Indio, California.
- The Equestrian corner of 50/Monroe: The Empire Polo Club is located here, and the very popular Tackroom Tavern should not be missed! A local hangout, featuring Western paraphanalia as well as Polo and Jumping odds and ends..even saddles for bar stools! Casual Sports Bar feel, friendly staff, indoor/outdoor seating, good inexpensive food. Local Bands rock it out on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the winter season.
- Polo: I mean why WOULDN’T you go see a game? Eldorado and Empire Polo Clubs have feature matches open to the Public every Sunday January through March.
- Mexican Food! There are so many GREAT, local Mexican Food eateries. Head into downtown Indio or to Hwy 86 for some Authentic Mexican meals.
- Indio Date Festival: Just go. Try all the Date Drinks and interesting date foods. Rides, exhibits, local artists, Ostrich Races..yep, fun.
- Neils Bar: This bar is one of the original hangouts..from way back. Still looks exactly the same. Local pit stop is Neils’. Voted one of the 10 best bars on this list..
And of course we ALL know about the Coachella Music Festival in April, followed up by the Stagecoach Festival!! Tickets can still be had..I’ve got mine for Stagecoach..
