Travertine is coming to the Eastern Coachella Valley

Travertine, La Quinta update:  About a week ago, I did a post on the proposed development called Travertine.  I’ve been hearing about this proposed community for many years, so I wanted to follow up on the city council meeting that was held regarding the community.  Well, it’s been approved!  Call local agent and resident, Kim Kelly at 760-285-3578.

The council has approved the project!  The project would amend the adopted Travertine specific plan.  It is in a spectacular location, Avenue 60 to the north, Coral mountain on the northwest, and a reclamation dike on the East.  You can go to the link above to get the specifics, but here are some of them.

• Approx. 855 acres, total.  Natural open space land uses on approx. 301 acres on the southern portion of the project.
• Developer:  TRG land
• Approx. 56 acres for a trail system, staging areas, conversation areas, and passive and active spaces.
• Approx. 46 acre golf/resort facility with clubhouse, restaurant and golf academy.
• The main developed areas will be on approx. 38 acres with a 45,000 sf boutique hotel, 175 seat restaurant, resort villas, and spa and wellness center, and Approx. 1200 homes.

So the La Quinta city council is supposed to meet on Tuesday, August 6 regarding approval for the Travertine specific Plan Amendment. The project is approx. 876 acres and has been in the works for years.  Because it is so near to the Trilogy Community, and Andalusia, both bordering Avenue 61, the public hearings have been interactive with many comments about noise and increased traffic to the area.

Description: The Project would amend the adopted Travertine Specific Plan to provide for the development of a mix of uses including up to 1,200 dwelling units of varying residential product types and two community parks (east and west) on 378.8 acres; a 38.3-acre resort/spa facility with a 45,000-square-foot boutique hotel with a 175-seat restaurant, 97,500 square feet of resort villas, and 8,700 square feet of spa and wellness center; a 46.2-acre resort/golf facility with a 5,500-square-foot golf academy, a 1,000-square-foot clubhouse, and 10,000-square-foot banquet restaurant (500-seat capacity). The Project also proposes on-site and off-site drainage infrastructure, and recreational open space consisting of a 5-mile public trail system, staging areas, gathering areas, and passive and active spaces on approximately 55.9 acres. Natural open space land uses are proposed on approximately 301.2 acres on the southern portion of the Project property for conservation and preservation purposes.  (This description taken from the City of La Quinta website.)

I’ll be looking for the results of the council meeting on 8/6.  This is a huge project, and further evidence that our southeast La Quinta land is going to be changing from desert to cultivated acre upon acre.  Take a tour of this 9.7 acre date farm on the corner of Monroe/Ave. 62, very near this proposed community!  Just $795,000.
