Halloween costumes for Halloween parties in the desert!

Halloween Hot Spots in our Desert.  So you put together a great costume??  Wondering exactly where you can go and strut your stuff?  Here are some fun Halloween Hot Spots to think about for Saturday night.  Halloween is that one time a year, you can look as goofy or gross as you want to.  You can also get out all your costume jewelry, (or real jewelry), and wear it ALL at one time..no choosing.  Just slap it all on, put on a wig, face paint, whatever..and boldly head out the door.

We have many party options for Halloweeners here in the desert, so go crazy, and don the costume of the persona you secretly want to be.  Well..at least for one night.

  1.  Sinners and Saints Halloween Ball at Costas’ Nightclub at the Marriotts in Palm Desert.  $35/general admission ticket.  Starts at 9 pm and will roll on until 2 am .
  2. If you want to include the kids and other family members, you might head over to the Living Desert. The Howloween events are open to all!
    The Living Desert welcomes you!

Polo in the Coachella Valley; What’s the BIG deal?

Polo in the Coachella Valley; What’s the BIG deal?  When I came to the desert over 30 years ago, I was a groom, hoping to one day be able to play polo professionally.  I was overwhelmed by the scope of the Eldorado Polo Club at that time.  It seemed to my eyes, that the fields went on and on, horses were everywhere, and Polo was the Valley’s Sport!  What a dummy.  In my small world of Polo and horses, EVERYONE knew about the club.  In reality, when I meet with clients to show them property 30 years later, it is the rare individual that knows about our amazing East Valley horse Industry, and how it contributes to our Coachella Valley economy.

Desert Club Estates in La Quinta, Calif.

Arnold Palmers' Restaurant is walking distance away...

Arnold Palmers’ Restaurant is walking distance away…

Desert Club Estates in La Quinta, Calif.  This is a very unique neighborhood.  It’s location is brillliant, tucked behind The Citrus Golf Club and across the street from The Tradition Golf Club.  Put on your tennis, grab your bike, or jump into your Golf Cart and head to Silver Rock Resort, Arnold Palmers’ Restaurant, Old Town La Quinta, Fritz Burns park for a game of Tennis.  Behind the wall on the corner of Washington and 52nd lies this non-gated, non-golf course community with NO monthly HOA’s!

What I love the best about this “hole in the wall” desert community, is the location.  You can literally walk across Washington at Tampico, and head to the La Quinta Library, take a Yoga class at the Yoga studio, take a stroll through the park like grounds of the La Quinta Civic Center, hit the new Wellness Center, or head on to Old town La Quinta to shop or grab a meal.  Biking is another way to get around.  If you want exercise, head across 52nd to the Fritz Burns Park, where there are public Tennis courts, a public Pool, or watch the kids in the Skate Park.  Hiking?  Just head up Bermudas to the Top of the Cove, where there are several Trail heads, and head out.  Golf at the public Silverrock course, or several nearby other public golf courses.

La Quinta Cove; known for diversity

La Quinta Cove; A favorite of Locals and Visitors.  The “Cove”, as Locals refer to it, has been a favorite of mine since my Polo playing days.  When I, and maybe one or two other players needed a seasonal place to stay, we almost always chose the La Quinta Cove.  We could find a nice home, in a beautiful area, that was reasonably priced, and just far enough away from the Polo fields to give us a bit of autonomy.  It still remains a favorite today.  The Cove is an eclectic collection of single family homes, approx. 1200 of them, that hug the base of the mountains in one of the prettiest Coves in the desert.

No HOA’s here, and it’s very obvious!  Homes can be any architectural style, and a wide range of Colors.  The Cove is also home to approx. 28 “Casitas” that were built in the 1930’s – 40’s, and originally sold as retreats for many of Hollywood’s celebrities of the time.  Classic adobe, with red tile roofs, white stucco walls, and original wood doors, the original Casitas were built in the style of the La Quinta Hotel, and are still much in demand.

Ma Rouge in Yucca Valley, CA.

Black Rock Campground in Yucca Valley, Calif.  What is so magical about this Campground?  The first time I saw it, I just could not believe it.  It’s like being out in the middle of the high desert, think Joshua Tree Park, yet there is a specific area to park your horse trailer and keep your horses!  Sweet.

On your way up, you’ll pass the newly re-opened, (2015), Hawk’s Landing Golf Club.  Designed for people who don’t have the time for an entire 18 hole game, it is designed with two 6-hole loops..meant to bring the fun back into the game!  Side note here..there is an events co-ordinator at the club so if you have a special event coming up, you might consider this beautiful high desert setting.  On to Black Rock…

The Tackroom Tavern is right next to The Date Shed

The Date Shed in Indio, California.  If you’re looking for a good Music Venue in our East Valley City of Indio, be sure to hit The Date Shed.  It’s very easy to find.  Head to the Empire Polo Club off of Monroe St.  The entry to The Date Shed is just North of the entry to The Tackroom Tavern and the Polo Club.  The music at this venue is progressive, and the clientele is young..under 40 for the most part.

The Date Shed, owned and operated by Alex Haagen IV, has continued to make it’s mark on our East Valley Music scene.  Local Bands, New Bands, Up and Comers, established Bands..all come to The Date Shed.  It’s a fun venue, so if you’re in town looking at Indio Homes, in town for the Coachella Music Festival or Stagecoach, Polo Games, the HITS horseshow ,or maybe just on a Golf Holiday, check it out..

Sellers do NOT determine Price; Buyers Do!

Buyers determine Price, no matter how awesome your property!

Buyers determine Price, no matter how awesome your property!

Sellers do NOT determine Price; Buyers DO!  What??  This is the one Listing appointment principle that is the most difficult for my Sellers to really accept.  Each one of us, when we put on our Sellers’ shoes, thinks of all the money invested and time spent on our property.  The Reality of the Market at the time of your Listing MUST over ride these numbers and personal feelings.  IT DOES NOT MATTER.  What matters is very simply “What will a Buyer pay for your property?”

Working with a local Realtor who can show you exactly what the past SOLD properties have included, and how they compare to your own is critical to determining your Listing Price.  Your Upgrades List is very important, as is your Lot orientation, architectural style, actual floor plan, quality of upgrades etc.  Do NOT start adding the dollar amounts of these upgrades together and coming to a “number you HAVE to have to sell.”  Again..ultimately, that does not matter to your potential buyer.  Put on  your Buyers’ shoes now.  When you are looking for a property, there are certain things on  your “Drop Dead Must Have list”.  There are also amenities that you “Would Love to Have, but can Live Without.”  But, you as a Buyer, do not want to feel that you are paying the highest price for that home in that Neighborhood.

Vegetarian Dining in the Desert

Vegetarian dining option? Haven't tried them!

Vegetarian dining option? Haven’t tried them!

Vegetarian Dining in the desert, means you have to be a little creative.  There aren’t that many hard core Vegetarian restaurants and dining options available, especially in our East Cities of La Quinta and Indio.   There are several strictly Veggie places in Palm Springs and Palm Desert however.  Luscious Lorraines which is inside Harvest Health Foods in Palm Desert.  The incredibly popular Native Foods in Palm Springs.  Do not dispair locals in the East Valley.  The great news is that nearly every restaurant you go to at this point offers variations, or their chef’s are open to “vegetarian changes” that you may request.  Why not?  It probably saves them money, substituting Tofu, or Soy/vegetable products for meat.
