La Quinta Restaurants; 5 favorite Happy Hour Spots! Being a year round “Local”, in our desert cities, gives a person a leg up as to the best Happy Hours. Then again, we all have different tastes. I love the winters here in the Coachella Valley for the obvious reasons..the warmth, and the winter Activities. I also love it when the Snowbird, Coachella Music Festival Attendees, and Vacation Residents head back home. When our Seasonal people leave, it’s time to slow down in La Quinta, enjoy the Golf Discounts at the La Quinta Golf courses, and hit the Happy Hours! [Read more…]
Desert Club Estates in La Quinta, Calif.
Desert Club Estates in La Quinta, Calif. This is a very unique neighborhood. It’s location is brillliant, tucked behind The Citrus Golf Club and across the street from The Tradition Golf Club. Put on your tennis, grab your bike, or jump into your Golf Cart and head to Silver Rock Resort, Arnold Palmers’ Restaurant, Old Town La Quinta, Fritz Burns park for a game of Tennis. Behind the wall on the corner of Washington and 52nd lies this non-gated, non-golf course community with NO monthly HOA’s!
What I love the best about this “hole in the wall” desert community, is the location. You can literally walk across Washington at Tampico, and head to the La Quinta Library, take a Yoga class at the Yoga studio, take a stroll through the park like grounds of the La Quinta Civic Center, hit the new Wellness Center, or head on to Old town La Quinta to shop or grab a meal. Biking is another way to get around. If you want exercise, head across 52nd to the Fritz Burns Park, where there are public Tennis courts, a public Pool, or watch the kids in the Skate Park. Hiking? Just head up Bermudas to the Top of the Cove, where there are several Trail heads, and head out. Golf at the public Silverrock course, or several nearby other public golf courses. [Read more…]
La Quinta Cove; A favorite of Locals and Visitors
La Quinta Cove; A favorite of Locals and Visitors. The “Cove”, as Locals refer to it, has been a favorite of mine since my Polo playing days. When I, and maybe one or two other players needed a seasonal place to stay, we almost always chose the La Quinta Cove. We could find a nice home, in a beautiful area, that was reasonably priced, and just far enough away from the Polo fields to give us a bit of autonomy. It still remains a favorite today. The Cove is an eclectic collection of single family homes, approx. 1200 of them, that hug the base of the mountains in one of the prettiest Coves in the desert.
No HOA’s here, and it’s very obvious! Homes can be any architectural style, and a wide range of Colors. The Cove is also home to approx. 28 “Casitas” that were built in the 1930’s – 40’s, and originally sold as retreats for many of Hollywood’s celebrities of the time. Classic adobe, with red tile roofs, white stucco walls, and original wood doors, the original Casitas were built in the style of the La Quinta Hotel, and are still much in demand. [Read more…]
Black Rock Campground in Yucca Valley, Calif.
Black Rock Campground in Yucca Valley, Calif. What is so magical about this Campground? The first time I saw it, I just could not believe it. It’s like being out in the middle of the high desert, think Joshua Tree Park, yet there is a specific area to park your horse trailer and keep your horses! Sweet.
On your way up, you’ll pass the newly re-opened, (2015), Hawk’s Landing Golf Club. Designed for people who don’t have the time for an entire 18 hole game, it is designed with two 6-hole loops..meant to bring the fun back into the game! Side note here..there is an events co-ordinator at the club so if you have a special event coming up, you might consider this beautiful high desert setting. On to Black Rock… [Read more…]

5 of my favorite things about Indio, California!
5 of my favorite things about Indio, California! The City of Indio is one of our Eastern cities in the Coachella Valley. Having lived in Indio more than once in my 30+ years as a desert local, I know firsthand that there are some FUN things to do and see in this “City of Festivals.”
Indio used to be called “The Hub bub of the Valley.” That was the actual City Jingle!! That was in the 80’s. It is no longer considered the Hub Bub, but that’s more because our other Central Valley cities have grown too. Especially La Quinta, our newest City, which has experienced phenomenal growth. Back to Indio..here are 5 of my most Favorite things about Indio, California. [Read more…]
Equestrian Update as we head into 2016 Season
Equestrian Update as we head into 2016 Season: Hard to believe, but the extreme Summer Desert heat is becoming just a memory. Though I have to admit that the last couple days have been pretty humid, and temps are still in the 90’s. My unheated swimming Pool is still at 80-81 degrees so I’m still swimming my daily laps. I’ve started riding the Horses in sets early in the mornings, in preparation for their move to Deer Creek on November 1. I’ve also seen an uptick in local traffic..both on the streets and in the stores and restaurants. Our Equestrian Residents are returning to town and I see rigs on a daily basis, taking their polo ponies out to pasture to rest. Have seen several large hauling vans with Hunter/jumpers arriving early as well. Horse people are preparing for the 2016 season already! It’s a great time to think about looking at Equestrian Farms and Land in our amazing East Valley. [Read more…]
Coachella Valley Farms; Just Listed!
Coachella Valley Farms; Just Listed! Season has begun in our Southern California desert. We are seeing the weather cool down, clear, star filled nights and early mornings, and lower temperatures. October is always a supurb month here in the Palm Springs Valley. I was kept busy selling Residential Properties over the Hot summer months, and now as our Equestrian Residents return for another season, Land and Farms start generating interest.
I have 4 new Farms that I’ve just listed, and several other nearby parcels where the Sellers are interested in Selling soon. Our Eastern, Agricultural part of the Valley is BOOMING! We had 6 Sales over the summer, another 36 acre parcel with an older home is in Escrow, and I’m touring clients through land and Farms already! Take a look at Two of the new Land and Farm Properties, and give me a call for your personal tour. [Read more…]
Thunderbird Heights: Rancho Mirage Neighborhood of the Week
Thunderbird Heights: Rancho Mirage Neighborhood of the Week. When potential buyers come to the Valley seeking a home that has a bit of History attached to it, Thunderbird Heights is one of the Communities they’ll be looking in. T-Bird Heights, as it is fondly called, is indeed part of the Deserts’ history. There are many stories floating around about the many Celebrities and Presidents too, who have either owned or leased at Thunderbird Heights. What’s the draw??
Middle of the Desert Valley Location would be at the top of the list. The entry gates into T-Bird Heights, is directly off of Hwy. 111, very near to the entry to The River Shopping Center. Thunderbird Heights is a Hillside Community, and as you wind up the streets, the Down Valley Views become ever more breath taking. Being perched above the City, boasts views North to the Chocolate Mountains, East toward La Quinta City lights, and West to the San Jacintos. If you want to be “in the middle of the action”, yet also enjoy the privacy of a Gated Community, this location is perfect for you. [Read more…]
Sellers do NOT determine Price; Buyers Do!
Sellers do NOT determine Price; Buyers DO! What?? This is the one Listing appointment principle that is the most difficult for my Sellers to really accept. Each one of us, when we put on our Sellers’ shoes, thinks of all the money invested and time spent on our property. The Reality of the Market at the time of your Listing MUST over ride these numbers and personal feelings. IT DOES NOT MATTER. What matters is very simply “What will a Buyer pay for your property?”
Working with a local Realtor who can show you exactly what the past SOLD properties have included, and how they compare to your own is critical to determining your Listing Price. Your Upgrades List is very important, as is your Lot orientation, architectural style, actual floor plan, quality of upgrades etc. Do NOT start adding the dollar amounts of these upgrades together and coming to a “number you HAVE to have to sell.” Again..ultimately, that does not matter to your potential buyer. Put on your Buyers’ shoes now. When you are looking for a property, there are certain things on your “Drop Dead Must Have list”. There are also amenities that you “Would Love to Have, but can Live Without.” But, you as a Buyer, do not want to feel that you are paying the highest price for that home in that Neighborhood.
