La Quinta Community of The Quarry – Market Report

LA QUINTA’S GOLD MINE OF A GOLF CLUB – THE QUARRY

La Quinta's Golf Community - The Quarry . . . One of Golf's Finest

The Quarry at La Quinta offers an exclusive desert lifestyle

La Quinta’s golf community The Quarry is quite unique… and there are many reasons why it has been recognized by Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of America’s top golf communities. If you’ve ever visited The Quarry, you would immediately understand.  Its picturesque location, nestled in a cove at the base of the Coral and Santa Rosa Mountains on an old mining site, creates an allure and feeling of total exclusivity, privacy and security. This is where Native Americans roamed and the Old West once flourished.  Life-size bronze sculptures strategically placed around the property artfully pay homage to the land’s history.

Hidden up a curving entrance road, the Fazio designed golf course at The Quarry cuts a dramatic oasis-like swath up the cove… with manicured fairways and four lakes, streams and waterfalls encircled by lush indigenous landscaping.  Owning a home at The Quarry is a privilege unlike anywhere else in the Palm Springs Valley.

Learn About Wine Tasting at The Wine Bar at Old Town La Quinta

Have you always wanted to learn more about wine?  Are you a serious wine drinker looking for something more than just tasting wines . . . a real wine education?

Then check out the wine classes that are now being offered by The Wine Bar at Old Town La Quinta as a brainchild of its owner Robert Mott.  Their wine classes, which are in addition to their weekly Saturday wine tastings, are designed to provide context for wine lovers who know what they want, but need a vocabulary to communicate about their wine experience and why they like what they like.

The Wine Bar Offers Advanced Wine Classes in Old Town La QuintaWine educator and sommelier Kevin Sharkey leads classes through wine appreciations which include clarity, intensity, color, nose, condition of the wine, whether it smells like a young or well-developed wine, whether it was sweet or dry-fruity or earthy, alcohol content and body, and character of the taste of wine.  The final part is determining the quality of the wine, its drinkability and cost.

So far, six classes have been presented since November, including tours of different wine regions and the correct glass to use with the wine.  Future classes are being planned and Sharkey and Mott are thinking they’d like to do at least one or maybe two classes a month. Right now, the classes are being held about every 6 to 8 weeks.

The Wine Bar is located in Old Town La Quinta at 78015 Main St., Suite 109.

For more info about the wine classes, Saturday wine tastings, wine club, etc. – call 760-564-2201 or go to www.thewinebaratoldtown.com

Great Sushi Right Here in La Quinta at Sam’s Sushi

La Quinta – Check it out . . . if you love sushi, and it seems you either love it or you don’t, there’s no in between . . . but if you LOVE sushi, then have you eaten at Sam’s Sushi right here in La Quinta?

The owner is Sam Kwon, who came to the U.S. from Korea and was involved with restaurants before moving to California in 1999.  He moved here to the desert in 2002 and has had his La Quinta restaurant open for four years now.  Sam’s was expanded last year from a 35 seat sushi bar to a 92 seat restaurant.  Obviously, Sam’s Sushi has been well received here on the east end of the valley.

Sam's Sushi is a Neighborhood Favorite in La Quinta

Sam’s Sushi has a contemporary vibe with spacious high ceilings and soothing colors and woods.  A wide variety of Nigiri sushi and sashimi is offered, along with a long list of specialty rolls – which includes baked lobster, a neighborhood favorite.  Also offered are lunch and dinner specials.

It wouldn’t be sushi without sake to accompany it.  Sam’s offers a variety of premium cold sakes and hot sake is also available.  Popular Japanese beers are available as well.

Sam also owns  Sam’s Korean BBQ & Teriyaki Grill, which is just around the corner in the same La Quinta complex. A third restaurant, also Sam’s Sushi,  is located at The River in Rancho Mirage.

SAM’S Sushi in La Quinta is located at 79485 Highway 111.  For more information or for reservations, call 760-771-8285.

La Quinta Cove Getting a Roundabout? Or Not?

City Planning to Install Roundabout at Entry to La Quinta CoveThe City of La Quinta has a proposed plan to put in a roundabout near the entry of the La Quinta Cove neighborhood at the intersection of Eisenhower Dr. and Calle Sinaloa.  The roundabout would replace the existing four-way stop there.

Roundabouts are used extensively in Europe and are becoming increasingly popular in this country.  They require those vehicles approaching it to have to slow down and yield to circulating traffic, thereby reducing accidents by up to 60%, according to traffic engineers

There are already four roundabouts located in La Quinta and they keep traffic moving without having a signal there.  Because the roundabouts force traffic to slow down, there is a reduction in broadside collisions from drivers who run traffic stops.

The roundabout is expected to be installed later this year and will cost approximately $600,000.  Additional landscaping could run the cost up more, and one design includes installation of an art piece that serves as an entryway to the Cove neighborhood.

Some Cove residents who got a look at the new road design are not in favor of it.  Nearly 7,700 cares travel on Eisenhower Dr. up into the Cove during off-season, and city staff estimates that the number increases 10% during peak season.  That’s a whole lot of cars coming in and out of the Cove.

FYI – the La Quinta Cover Neighborhood Association is in favor of the roundabout.  Landscape designs will likely go before the City Council at its meeting on July 17.

The Quarry at La Quinta – One of Golf’s Finest . . .

La Quinta's Golf Community - The Quarry . . . One of Golf's FinestDid you know the interesting history behind The Quarry at La Quinta, the world renowned golf community tucked into the foothills of the Coral and Santa Rosa Mountains?  It sits on what was once an abandoned sand and pit gravel mine . . . and who knows, maybe once upon a time, gold was mined there ?
This premier member-owned golf club is  a highly sought after address on the east end of the Palm Springs Valley . . . and there are many reasons why.  It is peaceful, it is picturesque and the lifestyle it affords is the Ultimate in Desert Luxury Living.
The Quarry was started by two avid golfers seeking to find an alternative to crowded golf courses and unavailable tee times.  They purchased the 105 acre property, acquired an adjacent 255 acres and along with 13 founding associates, they developed The Quarry.  There is a championship 18-hole course and a 10-hole short course, both designed by Tom Fazio – that are set in a pristine desert landscape with distinct areas of elevation.  The courses are graced with waterfalls, streams and tens of thousands of native plants and trees.  The Quarry’s championship course is ranked in the top 50 among Golf Digest’s 100 top courses.  Some say golfing at The Quarry is the finest golfing experience in the desert . . . or anywhere, for that matter.
Many PGA legends have played at The Quarry, as well as its 300 members and guests . . . such as Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Phil Mickelson and others.  The club’s fabulous 21,000sf Mediterranean style clubhouse is casual, yet elegant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner on occasion.  It also boasts a spacious veranda, golf shop and a nearby fitness center with pool & spa and tennis court.  Members enjoy many social amenities including hiking groups, book clubs, card games and more.
The Quarry does not require real estate ownership to join – unlike many other local upscale golf clubs’ memberships, . Those who don’t own there and guests of members who want to stay onsite can rent one of 3 guest cottages.
The ultimate build-out of  of homes at The Quarry is approximately 100, with 57 luxury homes now completed.  65 homes will ultimately surround the perimeter of the golf courses.  The homes start at around $1 million.  High security is provided, as there are 2 guards on duty day and night – one at the entrance gate and one patrolling the property.

For a private tour of The Hideaway Golf Club or any of its available properties, please don’t hesitate to contact Kimberley Joy Kelly, realtor with HK Lane Real Estate.  She is very familiar with the La Quinta area and its many upscale Golf Communities – and will work to help you find just the right property for YOU !

La Quinta Fairways – A Community With a View

A Community With a View - La Quinta FairwaysQuite frankly, there are few, if any, communities in the fair city of La Quinta that don’t have a view.  Some neighborhoods are tucked right next to the mountains like La Quinta Cove and Traditions . . . others have a more panoramic view from a distance, quite dramatic . . . like La Quinta Fairways.

La Quinta Fairways is a well kept secret in our desert, conveniently located off of 50th Ave. near Washington St. and right around the corner from Old Town La Quinta.  It is a quiet neighborhood, but very accessible – just 10 minutes away from Hwy. 111 and about 20 minutes from Interstate 10.

There are 254 homes in La Quinta Fairways and it is adjacent to La Quinta Resort and Club – with several of the golf holes of the resort’s Dunes Course winding through this private gated community.  Though membership to The Dunes Club is not included in LQ Fairways HOAs, residents can receive discounted rates to play by using their city resident cards.  Discounts apply to the Mountain Course and La Quinta’s public course, SilverRock, as well.  Since there is no Clubhouse, community pool or fitness center, all is available at the Resort and consequently La Quinta Fairway’s HOAs are much lower.

La Quinta Fairways’ homes were built from 1994 to 2000 and are located both on and off the golf course.   The streets are quiet and ideal for families with children and pets . . . and people are noticably friendly here. The smooth stucco homes in neutral colors with tile roofs are one and two-story and many have private pools with front and rear patios and courtyards, making for the perfect desert lifestyle.  Floor plans range from approx. 1700sf to approx. 4,000sf and spectacular views of the Santa Rosa Mountains are a bonus.

La Quinta Fairways is truly a FIND !!!  Allow Kimberley Kelly, Realtor with HK Lane Real Estate, to help you find your Desert Dream Home here . . . give her a call at 760-285-3578.
